Black Swamp Quilt Guild: art quilts

October - November 2010: Perrysburg Municipal Building
201 W. Indiana Ave. Perrysburg, OH

The Black Swamp Quilt Guild is comprised of about 100 members from Wood County and the surrounding area, as far as Sylvania, Maumee, and Northwood. The guild promotes the art of quiltmaking and offers encouragement and motivation to its members. They make quilts for charities such as St. Vincent's Pediatric Palliative Care Center, CRC, The Cocoon, and Quilts of Valor. The Guild meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Simpson Building in Bowling Green.

The quilts in this exhibit were created by the Art Quilt Group of the Black Swamp Guild. Meeting after the guild meeting, this subgroup is a very loose group, usually with 6-8 members at each meeting. They discuss various topics and share books and information. The group also gives constructive guidance and encouragement to each other.

Each one of the members brings in their experiences to share. Some like to have a plan while others like to experiment with various techniques, such as embellishing, slicing and dicing, felting, stamping, and free-motion quilting. During the summer, they usually dye fabric, paint, and discharge outside.

Please contact Mary Lee Grabowski at 419-353-5352 for more information about the Black Swamp Quilt Guild.

This free exhibit will run through the end of August and is open to the public during business hours at the Perrysburg Municipal Building (9am-5pm, Monday - Friday).

For purchasing information or other inquiries, please contact the Perrysburg Area Arts Council.
