Tamra Mielke: the barns of wood county
March - May 2010: Perrysburg Municipal Courthouse
300 Walnut St., Perrysburg, OH 43551
After working for many years in graphite and oils, Tamra Mielke began painting with pastels four years ago. The brilliant color and textural qualities of pastels got her completely hooked on this medium. Tamra has since been exploring pastels in terms of portraits, landscapes and still life.
This past year she was drawn to old Wood County barns that are in different states of dilapidation. As the barns in our rural areas are torn down, they are usually replaced with pole barns. Growing up in this area, Tamra is sentimental about old barns and am compelled to “preserve” them, in a way, by painting them. There is a nostalgic quality to these barns that is very appealing.
Tamra studied art at Ohio State University and Bowling Green State University. A resident of Perrysburg, she has a bachelor’s degree in Art Therapy and is a member of Prizm Creative Community. Tamra is currently represented by Silver Lining Gallery in Waterville, OH and accepts commissions in portraiture. Please visit her website at www.tamramielke.com for more information.
This free exhibit will run through the end of May and is open to the public during business hours, 8am-4:30pm, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and 8am-7pm on Tuesday.
